Headforthehillsflier FINAL FOR SURE

  • Description:

The poster for the 3rd annual Head for The Hills 5k fundraiser. The 5k is a fundraiser for the Hill st. Senior Center.

  • Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):

The image was taken from the February 2014 edition of runner’s world magazine. I scanned the image in and did all other editing in Microsoft Word.

  • Message:

Pretty straightforward: The aim of this flier is to make people aware of the fundraiser 5k and hopefully bolster attendance and turnout.

  • Audience:

Anyone who may have ties to the senior center as well as any hobbyist or enthusiast runners who enjoy a fun race.

  • Color scheme and color names:

The picture chosen is predominately green. I wanted to make sure that the earthiness of the picture was complimented by the design elements so my color palette is mostly green. The white text and box on the upper right corner serve to offset the darker green below as well as the dark green text used.

Colors used: White, Green accent 6 darker 50%, Green accent 6 darker 75%

  • Top Thing Learned:

How to manipulate shapes and text boxes in Word. Things in that program seem to operate on a very delicate balance. Change one thing and the rest changes with it. Kind of a pain.

  • Title Font Name & Category:

Calibri (Body) – Sans SCopy Font Name & Category:Book Antiqua – Oldstyle

  • Scanned images used, sources, original sizes, location of scanner used:

  1. This is a great flyer! Its inviting. The contrast is great. Your color scheme works well. It speaks well to its audience. I dint really like running and I want to go to this. Take a look at mine if you get a chance. Ericwaynewhitlock.wordpress.com

  2. Derek I think you did a really nice job with your flier! I love the part where the text is divided a bit by the image and the white space. That is definitely appealing visually! Also I really like that you used the color scheme that you did because I definitely feel that it suits the event and gives me a good first impression as to what the event is about. Nice job! 🙂

  3. Hey, I’d just like to say that I really like your design for the event ad! The colors work together splendidly, and your use of composition is perfect. I love the way that you’ve got the rule of thirds going on and that even when the white block is exactly half of the page, breaking up the rest of the green with different shades was a fantastic idea and looks great. Thank you for sharing your design!
